How the iPhone Should Handle Multitasking
The designers at Ocean Observations also have an idea for managing the mess of home screens that comes along with app hoarding. Tapping the home button would bring up a paneled Exposé page. From there, you could easily jump to a specific page, rather than swiping a hundred times to find Peggle.
I’m On A Boat
Designed by luxury fashion company Hermes and ship-builder Wally, the $142 million WHY 58×38 is more floating mansion than yacht. Those figures stand for its peculiar 58 by 38 meter dimensions, which is unlike any other vessel in the world. It features solar panels that will save 200 tons of diesel fuel per year, as well as 3,229 square feet of windows designed to bathe its interior with natural light.
According to Luca Bassini, founder of Wally, “I think the best part of this boat is the stern. It’s not like the usual stern of a boat, it’s more like the real beach of an island; a beach which is protected from the wind and the waves, where you can really relax.” You are so damn right, Luca. If you are reading this, please move it somewhere near New York so I can lease one of its six suites for a year or two (and be a pal and make that the 2,152-square-foot master suite, please). Terrible Decisions with Ben Schwartz
Mechanical tumor

This “Mechanical Tumor” plugs into your computer, looking very fleshy and realistic. As your computer runs, it quivers and pulses, growing as your computer works harder.
The brainchild of Japanese interactive media artist Mio I-zawa, this thing is flat-out disgusting. I mean, it’s certainly well-made, as I guess the whole point is to look like a real, biological entity, but damn. It looks like something out of a Cronenberg film. I’ll stick to using iStat Pro to monitor my CPU, thanks.
Build Your Own LED-Based Non-Lethal Weapon

Homeland Security loves non-lethal weapons: from sound cannons, to the $1M flashlight that temporarily blinds, disorientates, and screws equilibrium. And now you can build your own for $250! Does it really work? Not that well, but it’s great for raves…
Those wacky Ladyada hardware hackers (Adafruit Industries) and Phil Torrone from MAKE Magazine, trawled the net and found the patent from the outside consulting firm that built the device for the government.
They discovered it flashes green LEDs at about 10Hz to induce its effects, and modified a Sears flashlight to build their own version called the BEDAZZLER. And true to form, they’ve put the schematics, source code, and circuit board layouts online so you can make one yourself. Watch it in action below. Fun! [Ladyada]
Video From G20 the Corporate Media Will Never Show You
This kind of make me tear up (no pun). It’s sad to see people being treated this way because they want to protest peacefully. In what direction is this country heading?
Emo Labs Invisible Speakers: HDTV Screens Could Become The Speaker

TVs might be getting beautifully thinner, but we’re often still forced to use external speaker setups to get decent sound quality. Emo Labs‘ solution: embed a thin and clear “invisible” membrane speaker into the screen itself. Watch it in action:
It’s a completely new type of speaker technology that could also find its way into other thin gadgetry: laptops, LCD monitors, cellphones, photo frames, and hand held consoles.
Emo Labs calls the tech Edge Motion, and it basically involves the clear layer microflexing to generate soundwaves. Enough to produce a room full of stereo sound—without effecting visual screen quality.
They’ve embedded Edge Motion into a 42-inch TV for the demo below, but there’s still no word on which TV manufacturers, if any, they’ve managed to sign up. The vid comes from this week’s DEMOfall 09 tech showcase, where they won best consumer-oriented product. [Emo Labs via DEMO via Mashable]
