Comedian Katt Williams was a guest — not a burglar — at the Georgia home he is now accused of breaking into with a crowbar, his lawyer told CNN.

The house, on a horse farm in rural west Georgia, is owned by record producer Barry Hankerson, according to the police report.

Williams has been living in the Coweta County, Georgia, home for nearly a month while filming a movie produced by Hankerson, attorney William Briggs said.

Williams, 38, was arrested early Monday after an employee of Hankerson’s — Daniel Paul Broach — called police and reported Williams had broken into the home with a crowbar, the police report said.

A Coweta County magistrate set bail at $40,000 in a hearing Monday afternoon, which lawyers were working to post, Briggs said.

The police report said about $3,500 in jewelry and collectable coins were stolen, which his lawyer said “we absolutely deny.”

“Mr. Williams wears more than that in jewelry on his person,” Briggs said.

Briggs said Williams argued with the employee, prompting the burglary report.

Hankerson spoke with investigators Monday afternoon to assure them Williams had his permission to stay indefinitely in the home he was accused of burglarizing, Briggs said.

Alan Clarke, the Georgia lawyer who presented Williams in court, said Williams’ bond papers were being prepared.

“The community and law enforcement have been very welcoming and kind to him,” Clarke said. “This is a misunderstanding which will work out quickly.”

Williams smiled broadly while posing for a mug shot photo at the Coweta County jail early Monday.

Williams began his career as a stand-up comic, gaining attention in 1999 for comedy club appearances. Television appearances on the BET Network led to more success.

His 2006 HBO special “Katt Williams: Pimp Chronicles Pt.1″ raised his profile to a higher level.

He has acted in several movies — including Eddie Murphy’s “Norbit” — and he is the voice of popular cartoons — including “The Boondocks.”

His often raunchy style has drawn comparisons to comedy legend Richard Pryor.

His most recent CD release is “It’s Pimpin’ Pimpin’,” according to his Web site.

Williams’ was hospitalized in South Carolina in November 2008. His publicist at the time said it was for fatigue following a grueling road

Portable Pain Weapons Leave No Trace of Use, May Become Police Issue

October 1st, 2009 No comments

don’t hesitate to show excitement over non lethal and less-than-lethal weapons, but the reality is that they’re kinda scary. In particular when we’re starting to see hand-held heat weapons which leave little to no trace of ever being used.

A long time ago we heard about the UK considering testing out some non lethal directed energy gear. Basically a beam-based weapon which would cause a burning sensation to discourage a victim (or attacker), but not actually damage skin or leave burn marks. This is what the Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate, JNLWD, has been exploring since 2005. But according to project engineer Wesley Burgei, they’ve still got a few bugs left to work out:

“We have established the minimum irradiance to cause a sensation and have characterised where thermal injury begins,” he says. “But the exact operating irradiance which balances a useful military effect with a conservative margin of safety has not been nailed down yet.”

In plain words? There are some itty bitty safety issues. Thankfully those will be ironed out before the weapons ever hit the streets due to some UN protocol on blinding laser weapons. It turns out that they forbid weapons which would penetrate the retina and cause blindness. It seems odd that a beam-based weapon could affect skin without damaging eyesight, but, according to Burgei, it’s entirely possible to use a “retina safe” wavelength.

It’s great that safety is a priority in the design and creation of these beam-based weapons, but Steve Wright, a non lethal weapons analyst at Leeds Metropolitan University, raises an interesting point about them:

“Persuading by pain rather than brain – through conversation – has led to push-button torture in the past. If it leaves no mark on the skin how will anyone prove it’s been abused?”

Tasers and the like leave evidence, marks and traces of use, but once they’re within proper safety limitations, beam-based weapons like the one being built by the JNLWD won’t. Not to start the “Oh, no! They’ll be abused!” train, but how will we regulate them? [New Scientist]

The Brabus Viano Lounge Concept Van

The Brabus Viano “Lounge Concept” is a limousine inside a van. This concept Mercedes van is loaded with gadgets and gear to make it a perfect vehicle for work and play. This luxurious van is a mobile office and movie theater on wheels. The plush interiors feature comfortable leather upholstery, a 32-inch LCD screen which serves as monitor too with a Sony Vaio notebook and wireless LAN network. The multimedia van promises plenty of on-board entertainment with a Sony Playstation 3, Dolby surround sound system, a refrigerator and a “Nespresso” coffee maker of the latest generation. There’s even a Vertu Constellation phone to complement the Viano Lounge interior.

The other notable features include an electrically retractable partition window for complete privacy, emergency seats for bodyguards and other personnel. The Viano V8 is powered by a Brabus 6.1 eight-cylinder displacement engine with 426 hp and with a sprint time of 5.9 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) the Brabus Viano V8 is said to be one of the world’s fastest vans. But it’s still a concept. We have also seen the Mobile Office SUV concept by LimousinesWorld and this Brabus Viano comes close to the luxury limousine.
