World Traveling Expedition Yachts

January 4th, 2010 cherryb No comments

Expedition yachts have always been about what you can do with it rather than how great it looks. These yachts are designed to travel in rough seas, cross long distances and shelter their owners for weeks. In the last five years, there has been an explosion in mini-yachts and trawlers smaller than 80 feet, as more boaters want to see the world on their own terms. Azimut recently launched a boat that promises to break the image of salty but boring ocean explorer. Read More Here

Feadship Predator… fearsome..

October 19th, 2009 peterpopoff No comments

In 2008, the Dutch shipbuilder Feadship launched what is arguably its most innovative yacht to date, the 239-foot Predator. It only takes a quick glance at Predator’s menacing bow and aggressive lines to understand why the yacht was named as it was. Predator’s groundbreaking design is a triumph of both form and function. The distinctive reverse bow slices through the water—rather than pushing through it the way displacement hulls do—thus allowing a top speed of more than 25 knots. One could argue this bow design also bests more traditional shapes because it eliminates much of the up-and-down pitching motion that causes seasickness among passengers. (Some credit must also be given to Predator’s nonretractable Quantum zero-speed stabilizers, which cancel out most of the yacht’s side-to-side rolling motion.) Read more at

This series runs Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30 aboard the 1920’s style Yacht Manhattan with a different Brewery or host each night. Teak decks and a comfy cozy observatory awaits for this Fall themed series (aptly named the Autumnal Beer Paring Cruise).

Hosted by Kelly Taylor of Kelso of Brooklyn. Kelso creates craft beers using sustainable practices to impact the environment in a positive enriching manner. From fresh easy drinking Pilsner to Sour Cherry Lambic their beers are interesting and unique. They recently have partnered with Stone Barns at Blue Hill to create seasonal beers using the freshest of quality ingredients. Join him in this special pairing cruise series, featuring 5 different US craft beers paired with 5 tasting plates prepared by Classic Harbor Line’s on board chef.

The Beer Paring is just half the adventure. You’ll travel out into the crisp ocean air in New York Harbor, pass under the Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg Bridges; and get some killer views of Financial District, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.

Bring a camera, bring a jacket, bring an appetite and get to know this uber-cool boat that features a number of small, intimate foodie-inspired cruises.

I’m On A Boat

October 2nd, 2009 No comments

Designed by luxury fashion company Hermes and ship-builder Wally, the $142 million WHY 58×38 is more floating mansion than yacht. Those figures stand for its peculiar 58 by 38 meter dimensions, which is unlike any other vessel in the world. It features solar panels that will save 200 tons of diesel fuel per year, as well as 3,229 square feet of windows designed to bathe its interior with natural light.

According to Luca Bassini, founder of Wally, “I think the best part of this boat is the stern. It’s not like the usual stern of a boat, it’s more like the real beach of an island; a beach which is protected from the wind and the waves, where you can really relax.” You are so damn right, Luca. If you are reading this, please move it somewhere near New York so I can lease one of its six suites for a year or two (and be a pal and make that the 2,152-square-foot master suite, please).
